A Form of Art

A Form of Art

$95

A Form of Art is a wild alto sax feature filled with the vocabulary of Duke Ellington and Paul Gonsalves that was composed for a friend and colleague, Art Felluca. I woke up one morning before a gig and realized it would be the last with Art before he and his family moved away from Boston, so I wrote this as a surprise feature for him. As usual, he rose to the occasion, hyping up the band and driving the crowd wild. This is a frenetic, crescendoing rhythm changes tune featuring the alto soloing throughout. It’s purely an improvisation vehicle; there is no melody for the alto to play. It’s very easy for a level 4, tagged so because of the speed and the difficult requirement that you must have an alto saxophone player in your band who is comfortable keeping the energy up across one long extended solo.
